Manipur: Three Militants Nabbed in Imphal East, Extortion Links Uncovered

Police and security forces in Manipur arrested three insurgents, including a woman, linked to separate valley-based outlawed groups, during coordinated operations on Friday.

As per sources, the crackdown yielded weapons, ammunition, communication gadgets, and Rs 60,300 in cash.

Sources stated that the suspects had been extorting funds from schools, brick kilns, hospitals, and pharmacies across Imphal East district.

In the initial operation, a 22-year-old female member of the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Phanjoubam Thajamanbi Devi alias Chaibi and Malemnganbi from Andro Kharam Leikai in Imphal East, was detained at her home. Officers recovered three mobile phones and an Aadhaar card from her.

Acting on details extracted during her initial questioning, forces launched follow-up raids, apprehending two active operatives of the prohibited Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), the political arm of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), at separate sites in Imphal East.

The first detainee, 31-year-old Laishram Kishan Singh from Heirok Part-II in Thoubal district, was picked up at Khurai Lamlong Bazar under Porompat Police Station. The second, 48-year-old Selheibam Joysana Meitei—alias Joymani and Malei—from Andro Uchon Mayai Leikai in Imphal East, was arrested in the Porompat area under the same police jurisdiction.

Seized from the two male suspects were a .38 pistol with three live rounds in its magazine, two four-wheeled vehicles, two mobile phones including SIM cards, two wallets, and a total of Rs 60,300 in cash.
