Manipur Security Forces Arrest Four Insurgents, Seize Grenade and Devices in Valley District Raids

In a series of house-to-house search operations across vulnerable areas in Manipur, central security forces and Manipur Police apprehended four insurgents, including a senior member of various outlawed groups, over the past 24 hours, police said.

The operations led to the recovery of a hand grenade, incriminating documents, and communication devices from the suspects. Two alleged members of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive, Rajkumar Navy Meitei (32) and Thongam Ronaldo Singh (27), were arrested for their involvement in extortion activities around Wangjing in the southern Thoubal district.

Items seized from them included one 36 HE hand grenade and two mobile phones.

In a separate raid, Huyam Rameshwor Singh (67), a senior operative of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibang Nganba), was detained at Porompat Ayangpalli Road in Imphal East district’s Porompat police station area. Authorities recovered a mobile phone in his possession.

The final phase of the operation resulted in the arrest of Hemarjit Leishangthem (31), an active member of the proscribed Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup, from his residence in Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai under Singjamei police station in Imphal West district.

Seized items included a mobile handset, an Aadhaar card, and an Airtel Airfiber device.

It may be mentioned that violence in Manipur has claimed at least 260 people in the past two years and left over 60000 people homeless. The violence, often termed as Manipur violence, has not become an issue that does not seems to have a proper end.

Although over the past few months peace seems to have been constant in the state, still, militant movements seem to be on the rise.
