Guwahati: The Assam Rifles has arrested several suspected militants and recovered a sizeable quantity of weapons and explosives during a string of counter-insurgency operations conducted across Manipur from 7 to 14 February.

The operations were carried out jointly with the Manipur Police, including its commando units, across the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal and Tengnoupal. Acting on intelligence inputs, security personnel launched targeted raids to track down members of various insurgent groups believed to be active in the region.

In a statement issued on Monday, Assam Rifles said the coordinated drives resulted in multiple arrests and the recovery of a significant cache of arms and “warlike stores.” Among the items seized were an AK-47 rifle, pistols and other firearms, improvised mortars, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hand grenades, ammunition and communication equipment, along with other materials described as incriminating.

The force also reported that attempts to infiltrate across the Indo-Myanmar border during the same period were successfully prevented. According to the statement, suspected cadres attempting to cross the border were apprehended without resistance.

All those detained have been handed over to the relevant police stations for further questioning and legal proceedings. The recovered explosive devices were disposed of in line with established safety procedures.

Security officials said the sustained operations underscore ongoing efforts to restore stability in Manipur and curb insurgent activity through intelligence-led, coordinated action between central and state forces.
