According to official sources, one of the women was identified as a cadre of the banned group United National Liberation Front (UNLF). She was arrested from Imphal East district following intelligence inputs suggesting her involvement in extortion activities targeting local residents and businesses. Authorities said she had been actively collecting money on behalf of the outfit and was in contact with other members operating in the region.

In a separate operation, security personnel detained another woman believed to be linked to the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). She was reportedly picked up from a different part of the valley area after investigators traced her alleged role in threatening individuals and demanding payments under coercion.

Police officials stated that mobile phones and other incriminating materials were seized during the arrests. Both suspects are currently in custody and are being interrogated to determine the extent of their involvement and to identify any wider network supporting such activities.

The arrests come amid sustained efforts by state and central security agencies to curb extortion rackets run by underground outfits in Manipur. Businesses, government employees and contractors have frequently reported receiving threats and monetary demands from militant groups operating in the region.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to dismantling these networks and urged citizens to report any incidents of intimidation or unlawful demands. Further investigations are underway, and additional arrests have not been ruled out.
