Sangma reaffirmed his party’s unwavering commitment to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre, even as it pushes for a new regional political platform in the Northeast.AdvertismentAddressing reporters, Sangma dismissed any speculation of a rift, stating, “Our alliance with the NDA remains firm and clear. We currently have a BJP minister in our government, and TIPRA Motha is part of the BJP-led administration in Tripura. There is no ambiguity on this front.”He described the proposed regional front as a collaborative effort among northeastern parties to amplify their collective voice on shared concerns, rather than an opposition to any national entity.“This initiative is about building a stronger platform to raise regional issues effectively. It’s not directed against anyone. It’s about unity—so that Northeast leaders can engage with national leadership with greater authority and influence,” Sangma explained.Acknowledging that not all regional parties from states like Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh have been formally consulted yet, he emphasised that the process is gradual and inclusive.“This is an evolving dialogue. No one expects instant unification. A few parties have taken the lead, and consultations are underway. Others will be approached in due course based on mutual interest and alignment,” he said.Sangma underscored the strategic importance of regional solidarity, adding, “We’ve recognised that political unity in the Northeast is essential to advocate more powerfully for our priorities. Past challenges have shown the need for a coordinated voice. This front aims to strengthen our position and ensure our concerns are heard with the seriousness they deserve.”Also Read: One North East: Conrad Sangma Announces Unified Platform for NE Political and Social LeadersAdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
