Shillong: In a major relief, no fresh cases of the deadly meningococcal bacterial infection have been reported at the Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong, as per the official sources.

Medical authorities of the Indian Army, in a bid to ensure prior detection of any potential health concerns, have swiftly intensified their monitoring and surveillance measures within the Assam Regimental Centre campus in Shillong. Authorities have also stated that the medical facilities at the centre have already been upgraded wherever it was necessary to counter any medical emergency situation in an effective manner.

Utmost precautionary steps have already been taken by segregating the trainees who had earlier come in contact with the reported case. They have been placed under isolation and are being monitored 24 x 7 by medics at the Military Hospital, Shillong. Preventive protocols, including mandatory masking and restrictions on movement, continue to remain in force on the premises.

Keeping the Meghalaya Health Department updated about the developments and the current status of the situation, the military medical authorities ensured that they are in proper coordination with the concerned state departments.

According to sources, the medical officials have ensured that the matter is under close observation and assured that there is no cause for concern as of now.

It may be mentioned that serious concerns surfaced following two Agniveer trainees at the Assam Regimental Centre having a suspected meningococcal infection earlier this week. Following the incident, several trainees who had close contact with them were admitted to MH Shillong for observation, and preventive medications were given. The army has tightened health checks and safety measures on the campus. Officials say the situation is now stable and under close watch.
