Meghalaya: VPP Chief Compares CM Sangma's Accusations to Aesop's 'Wolf and Lamb' Fable

Shillong: Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has drawn a parallel between Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma's recent criticisms of his party and the classic Aesop's fable "The Wolf and the Lamb," accusing the CM of twisting facts to cover up governance shortcomings.

In a sharp rebuttal, Basaiawmoit stated, "The Chief Minister's claims against the VPP echo the fable where a wolf invents excuses to devour an innocent lamb." He emphasised that the ruling National People's Party (NPP), which has been in power for more than seven years with 33 MLAs, is unfairly targeting the VPP—a party established less than four years ago—to deflect blame for unfulfilled promises and "mislead the public."

"The essence of the story is that oppressors always concoct pretexts for their actions," Basaiawmoit remarked.

The exchange stems from Sangma's comments on Thursday during an event welcoming United Democratic Party leader Lambor Malngiang into the NPP. The Chief Minister indirectly questioned the VPP and Basaiawmoit on the apparent stagnation in development within constituencies held by the regional party's legislators.

Addressing NPP workers, Sangma raised concerns over whether allocated funds are being effectively used in areas represented by VPP MLAs.
