A 13-year-old boy was detained in connection with her death.Speaking at the site where Kyrshanbor’s body was found, SP Syiem confirmed the case as a homicide based on preliminary evidence, though the post-mortem report, to be conducted at NEIGRIHMS, will provide further clarity on the injuries. Also Read: Fatal Clash on Assam-Meghalaya Border Leaves One Dead"An SIT, comprising specialist officers, has a proven track record in delivering results. It is highly likely that we will form one for this investigation,” Syiem told reporters. While addressing concerns about a possible link to Insaphira’s case, Syiem noted that the two incidents appear unrelated at this stage, with the suspect in the earlier case already identified. “We will, however, explore all possibilities thoroughly,” he assured. The recurring tragedies in Nongrah have sparked fear and concern among residents. “Such incidents are deeply distressing and highlight the need for greater care in monitoring children,” Syiem said, urging communities to stay vigilant. He recommended installing CCTV cameras and improving street lighting in residential areas and advised the public to report children seen alone to the police via the 112 helpline or Childline for immediate action. Also Read: Assam CM Sarma claims he has no property except his salaryInitial findings suggest Kyrshanbor’s body was placed at the forest location, rather than being the site of the killing. Police teams from the Crime Scene Unit and Nongmensong and Mawdiangdiang outposts were deployed to collect evidence and conduct initial inquiries.Kyrshanbor’s aunt, Trilin Kharmudai, expressed profound grief and demanded justice for her nephew’s death. She revealed that the boy’s mother passed away two years ago, and his father has been absent from home. Recalling the events leading to his disappearance, Trilin said Kyrshanbor was playing football with his elder brother on Wednesday evening before stepping out. “He often played near the house, so I didn’t suspect anything,” she said. When she later noticed his absence, she searched the neighbourhood and the nearby playground but could not find him. Trilin denied any family disputes, emphasising their close-knit bond. The Meghalaya police have registered a case and are working to restore calm in the area as investigations continue.
