Bengaluru Doctor Confesses "I Killed My Wife for You" After Overdosing Wife with Anaesthesia

Bengaluru: In a twist to the honeymoon-period homicide, police have uncovered a chilling confession from general surgeon Dr Mahendra Reddy, 32, who allegedly murdered his dermatologist wife, Dr Kruthika M Reddy, 29, by injecting lethal anaesthesia doses—just weeks before she was set to open her dream clinic in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Arrested on October 14, six months after Kruthika was declared "brought dead" on April 24 at a Marathahalli hospital, Mahendra initially staged the death as natural. The couple had tied the knot on May 26, 2024; Kruthika was found lifeless less than a year later.

Investigators described the barrage as a calculated bid to reignite past relationships.

Forensic Science Laboratory tests later detected anaesthetic agents in her system, confirming respiratory failure from overdose. Police reclassified the case as murder, leading to Mahendra's detention.

Following his detention, the police found at least five disturbing revelations,

1. Staying at Father's Home: Kruthika was recovering from fatigue at her parents' Marathahalli residence when Mahendra visited, claiming to provide treatment. Over two days, he administered IV anaesthesia.

2. Ignored Pain, Final Dose: On April 23, Kruthika complained of injection-site pain. Mahendra allegedly instructed her via WhatsApp to leave the cannula in place. That night at 9:30 PM, he injected the fatal dose. The next morning, despite being a trained doctor, he skipped CPR.

3. Family Suspicions Ignored Initially: Though relatives accepted a natural death, Kruthika's sister, Dr. Nikitha Reddy, demanded clarity. An Unnatural Death Report was filed based on the hospital memo.

4. Extramarital Affair Exposed: Digital forensics on Mahendra's phone revealed an ongoing relationship with another woman.

5. Digital Confession: Moments after the murder, Mahendra messaged his lover via a payment app: "I killed my wife for you."

A distinguished dermatologist, Kruthika had earned her MBBS from Vydehi Institute, MD from Navodaya Medical College, and DNB in Dermatology from NBEMS. She was days away from launching *Skin & Scalpel*, her boutique clinic in Bengaluru, on May 4, 2025.

The probe indicates premeditation linked to the affair.

Adding to the scandal, police unearthed prior criminal records involving Mahendra's kin. Twin brother Dr Nagendra Reddy GS faced cheating charges in 2018; Mahendra and sibling Raghava Reddy GS were co-accused in a 2023 intimidation case. Kruthika's family alleged these facts were deliberately withheld during marriage negotiations.
