Hyderabad to Get ‘Donald Trump Avenue’ Ahead of Global Investors Summit; Google Street, Microsoft Road Also Planned

Hyderabad: In a bold branding push before the upcoming ‘Telangana Rising Global Summit’, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has decided to rename a prominent road flanking the US Consulate General in Hyderabad’s Hi-Tec City as “Donald Trump Avenue” – believed to be the first instance worldwide of a major road being named after a sitting US President outside America.

The Congress-led state government has rolled out an ambitious plan to rechristen several key arterial roads and junctions after global technology giants and iconic business leaders who have played a pivotal role in transforming Hyderabad into India’s leading IT destination.

Among the approved and proposed names:
- A major boulevard will be called “Google Street” in recognition of the search giant’s massive campus and continued investments.
- Another stretch earmarked as “Microsoft Road”.
- A crucial junction is likely to be named “Wipro Junction”.
- The new 100-metre Greenfield Radial Road connecting Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala to the upcoming Future City will be named after late industrialist Ratan Tata, while the Raviryala interchange has already been christened “Tata Interchange”.

Speaking on the initiative, CM Revanth Reddy said, “These names are not just tributes to global icons and corporations; every time a Hyderabadi drives down Donald Trump Avenue or Google Street, it will serve as daily inspiration and put Hyderabad firmly on the world map as a forward-looking global city.”

However, the move has sparked sharp political backlash. Union Minister and Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a scathing attack, saying the Congress government was renaming roads after “whoever is trending” instead of respecting local history.

“If they are so fond of changing names, they should first restore Hyderabad’s original name – Bhagyanagar,” Sanjay posted on X, adding that only the BJP was raising real public issues while the ruling party indulged in “publicity stunts”. 

The road-renaming announcements are part of a larger glamour-and-investment outreach strategy as Telangana gears up to host international CEOs, investors and heads of state at the ‘Telangana Rising’ summit early next year.
