The incident reportedly occurred around 10 AM on Saturday, at a shop in Ashram Maharani Bagh, near Jeewan Hospital and Ashram Metro Station. According to reports, ASI Kumar entered the shop without a warrant, allegedly searching for alcohol.

When a young woman present at the shop protested the unauthorised search, Kumar reportedly continued, found nothing, and then grabbed her face and touched her inappropriately, leaving her deeply traumatised.

The incident sparked outrage among the Northeast community in Delhi, with representatives and student groups gathering at Ashram Police Station to demand justice.

They met with the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Lajpat Nagar, who confirmed the officer’s suspension and the initiation of an internal inquiry. As of Sunday, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, prompting concerns over delays in legal action.

Social media platforms, particularly X, have amplified the issue, with hashtags like #JusticeForNortheastGirl and #StopPoliceAbuse trending widely.

Eyewitness accounts, supported by videos and photos shared by users such as @yarsho_naga_forever_21 and @nehaGurung1692, depict the alleged misconduct and have garnered thousands of shares. Community leaders have called for an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi officials to ensure accountability.
