Guwahati: In a continued crackdown on child labour, six minors, aged between 12-16 were rescued during a special operation carried out by the District Level Task Force in different parts of the city.

Officials said the children were recovered from the Six Mile, Hengrabari, and VIP Road areas, where they had reportedly been engaged in work at motor garages and car washing centres.

Following the rescue, authorities confirmed that the children will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for care, counselling, and rehabilitation. Officials added that children with traceable families will be reunited with their guardians, while decisions regarding those without family support will be taken by the CWC in accordance with child protection guidelines.

Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against the establishments involved. Cases have been registered at Dispur Police Station against all employers accused of engaging the rescued minors as labourers.

Authorities stated that such enforcement drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to curb child labour and ensure the protection and welfare of vulnerable children.
