Assam: Zubeen Garg's cousin Sandipan Garg arrested by SIT

In a significant development in the probe into the death of Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested Sandipan Garg, Zubeen's cousin.

As per reports, Sandipan Garg was present on the yacht during the tragic incident on September 19, 2025, in Singapore.

Sandipan Garg, who has been under intense scrutiny for several days, was taken into custody following prolonged questioning by the SIT.

Sources stated that the arrest came after extended interrogations at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters, where Sandipan appeared again today for further examination.

The 52-year-old singer drowned while swimming during a yacht party ahead of the North East India Festival.

Sandipan Garg's presence on the vessel at the time of the mishap has made him a focal point of the investigation, amid allegations of negligence and conspiracy involving other arrested individuals, including Zubeen's manager Siddhartha Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta.

The SIT, as well as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), is investigating potential financial irregularities and foul play linked to the case, including suspicious transactions and claims of poisoning. Public outrage and demands for justice persist, with fans and political figures calling for a transparent inquiry.

Police are yet to release official details on the charges against Sandipan Garg.
