Assam CM Issues Stern Warning Against Disruptions as Zubeen Garg’s Final Rites Preparations Begin

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a strong warning against any wrongdoing or disruptions during the final rites of legendary singer Zubeen Garg, scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Sonapur on the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam.

The last rites are scheduled to take place at Hatimura, Kamarkuchi NC Village in the Panbari Mouza of Sonapur Revenue Circle, Kamrup (Metro) District, near Jorabat.

Officials will take action two days after the event against those causing disturbances at Sarusajai Stadium or the airport, with footage of any incidents being collected for official records. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and record videos to assist with government documentation.

The singer’s mortal remains are expected to arrive at the cremation site by approximately 8:00 a.m., with an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 people anticipated to attend the ceremony. Garg’s family has planned a 13-day ritual observance in Jorhat, where the cremation ashes will be offered to the local community on the same day.

CM Sarma also announced that officials who accompanied Garg to Singapore will be investigated to confirm they had proper authorisation from the Home Department. To enable widespread public participation, LED screens will be set up at various locations for remote tributes, and villages are encouraged to organise television screenings in public spaces.

The Chief Minister noted that two additional advisories will be released soon to provide further guidance on the proceedings.
