Assam Prepares for Final Farewell to Beloved Singer Zubeen Garg in Sonapur

The final rites and cremation of Assam’s iconic singer Zubeen Garg are set to take place on Tuesday evening at Hatimura in Sonapur.

Arrangements are in full swing at the Kamarkuchi site to ensure a dignified ceremony for the beloved artist.

Ministers Keshav Mahanta and Ranoj Pegu, along with administrative officials, are overseeing the preparations.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that 10 bighas of land have been allocated for the cremation site as a special tribute to the legendary performer.

The funeral procession is scheduled to begin at 8 am on Tuesday from the Sarusajai Bhogeswar Baruah Complex, with thousands of fans expected to join in paying their last respects.

Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, officials have cleared sections of the surrounding jungle to accommodate the large gathering and ensure a smooth ceremony.

It may be mentioned that residents in Jorhat had demanded Jorhat as the final resting place for Zubeen Garg. However, Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that Zubeen's family had called for Sonapur as the final site. 

He added that Garima Saikia Garg came to a decision keeping Zubeen's father's age and the shortage to time.

However, the state government had later came to a conclusion that a memorial will be built in Jorhat for Zubeen Garg.
