AssamAssam: GMC to Organise Three-Day Community Welfare Programmes on CM’s BirthdayOn Assam’s CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s 57th birthday, Guwahati Municipal Corporation will hold community-oriented and public welfare programmes across the city from Jan 30 to Feb 1 DY365 Jan 30, 2026 13:23 ISTOn the occasion of the 57th birthday of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), along with its councillors and support from various organisations, will organise a series of community-oriented and public welfare programmes across the city over three days.AdvertismentThe initiatives, scheduled from January 30 to February 1, aim to promote cleanliness, environmental conservation, social responsibility and citizen welfare, while spreading a positive message among residents.As part of the programme, January 30 will see extensive cleanliness drives across Guwahati. Statues of eminent personalities at multiple locations will be cleaned, along with sanitation activities at 120 religious institutions, covering two institutions in each ward.On January 31, similar cleanliness campaigns will be organised in 120 social institutions across all wards. In addition, two special health check-up camps will be held exclusively for sanitation workers, recognising their vital contribution to the city's upkeep.On the concluding day, February 1, prayers will be offered in religious institutions in every ward for the long and healthy life of the Chief Minister. Traditional “shorai” will be offered, along with prayers seeking the formation of a BJP–NDA government in Assam under his leadership.On the same day, a major livelihood initiative will be launched under the Zoo Road flyover. Under the programme titled “Self-reliant Women, Self-reliant Assam”, marketing facilities will be provided to five self-help groups through “Udyamita Haat”, utilising funds from the Women Entrepreneurship Scheme. The initiative is being implemented with support from GMC and the Assam Deendayal Jan Aajeevika Yojana, in line with the Chief Minister’s vision.As part of the “Green Guwahati Project”, around 1,000 neem saplings will be planted across 60 wards in the premises of religious and social institutions. GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania stated that institutions where the saplings grow healthy will be awarded financial assistance of ₹3lakh after six months.Additionally, fruits will be distributed among patients in hospitals, residents of orphanages and old-age homes.
