Assam: Nirmala Sitharaman, Himanta Biswa Sarma Inspect TATA’s Semiconductor Hub at Jagiroad

Jagiroad: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday toured the under-construction Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility by TATA Electronics at Jagiroad, hailing it as a game-changer for the Northeast’s industrial future.

Welcomed by TATA Electronics CEO Randhir Thakur, the leaders received a detailed briefing on the project’s milestones and its potential to create thousands of jobs while positioning Assam as a key node in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Sarma thanked Sitharaman for her pivotal role in securing the investment, declaring the centre instrumental in overhauling the state’s industrial profile and driving skill-based employment across the region.

Sitharaman later engaged with local entrepreneurs and students, spotlighting Assam’s rising investment appeal and urging youth to seize opportunities in the burgeoning tech-manufacturing sector.

The dignitaries paid homage to J.N. Tata and planted red sandalwood saplings on site, symbolising sustainable growth.

Accompanying the visit were Industries Minister Bimal Bora, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLA Ramakant Deuri, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, TATA Project Head Asish Mishra, and senior officials.
