Chapar Police have seized a large consignment of suspected brown sugar and apprehended three alleged smugglers during a late-night operation on a passenger bus travelling from Guwahati to Dhubri.

The operation was carried out at Dhirghat on National Highway-17 by a team led by Officer-in-Charge Nipumoni Choudhury who intercepted the night bus and conducted a thorough search, leading to the recovery of a substantial quantity of prohibited drugs believed to have been concealed for illegal transport.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the seized contraband has an estimated market value exceeding Rs 10 lakh.

The three individuals taken into custody have been identified as Phulbor Ali and Hussain Ali and Alauddin Sheikh. A case has been registered against the three individuals and further investigation is underway.

In a separate operation, Cachar Police recovered 1.357 kilograms of morphine, arresting three suspected peddlers. The seized substance is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 8.2 crore.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the seizure through a post on social media platform X stating " Drug peddlers, I feel you!  You imported 1.357 kg morphine worth ₹8.2 crore 📦only to get BUSTED by 
@cacharpolice But you forgot one simple fact: This is Assam! Here, drugs don’t circulate, they get confiscated. 3 arrested, drugs seized, business permanently closed."
