 Youth Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Drug Trafficking in Assam's Cachar

A 38-year-old man, Ali Hussain, a resident of Saidpur village, Patharkandi, in Assam's Sribhumi district, has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by Special Judge Biprajit Roy of Cachar for drug trafficking.

Ali Hussain was arrested on January 9 this year during a joint operation by the police and the BSF in Salchapar, Cachar, where authorities recovered 342 grams of brown sugar.

Following the arrest, the police registered a case and conducted a thorough investigation. After the completion of the investigation, the trial proceedings commenced in District and Sessions Court.

Speaking to the media during the trial, Ali Hussain said,

“My image has turned out to be zero, with no value at all. Today, I am being given a jail term for a crime that I have not committed at all.”

Yesterday, the court found Ali Hussain guilty and delivered the verdict. Under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act, he was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh. Following the verdict, Ali Hussain was sent to Silchar Central Jail.
