Assam: Silchar Man Shot in Late-Night Ambush; Two From Mizoram Arrested

A man in Silchar was reportedly shot and injured by two individuals from Mizoram on Saturday night near the Ashram Road in Cachar district of Assam.

A man in Silchar, Assam, was reportedly shot by two individuals from Mizoram on Saturday night near the Ashram Road in Cachar.

The injured person, identified as Nilutpal Das, sustained serious injuries after being shot in the right arm by two assailants on Ashram Road near Sunlight Hospital.

Das, who was riding a motorcycle, reported that the attackers halted him, fired a shot, and escaped. He alerted nearby residents and was promptly taken to Silchar Medical College for medical care.

Police, following an investigation, arrested two suspects, David Hmar (22) and Christopher Vanlalpeka (22), both from Tuikual, Aizawl, Mizoram.

They recovered an Austrian-made Glock air gun with a magazine and six rounds, a CO2 gas cell, 16 bullets, a motorcycle (MZ-01-AC-0336), a phone and Rs 20,000 in cash.

A case has been filed under Silchar PS Case No. 886/25, invoking sections 126, 118(2)/3(5)BNS, and 25(1-A)/27 of the Arms Act. The investigation remains ongoing.

While the two individuals were arrested by the police, the exact motive has not been disclosed yet.

It may also be mentioned that sources stated that while the gun is said to be a Glock, it was a mere airgun, which can be purchased in India without a licence or permits. However, there are certain rules in states regarding the procurement of such guns.

Police are investigating the motive and where the individuals purchased the gun.
