Missing Woman Found Naked in Rukni River; Mystery Deepens in Dholai

In a separate and equally disturbing incident, intense sensation gripped the Dholai area of Cachar after the naked body of a missing woman was recovered from the Rukni River near Khulichara on Friday morning.

Local residents spotted the body floating in the river and immediately alerted authorities. A police team arrived at the location and retrieved the body.

“The body was face-down in the water. We could see only a blouse on her upper body, while the lower part was completely naked,” a local woman said.

Another eyewitness stated, “At first, we couldn’t determine whether it was a male or female. When I went closer to check—without touching—I noticed the ‘shakha’ (white conch shell bangles) on her hand, which confirmed she was a married woman. She appeared to be middle-aged, but her identity was unknown at that time.”

The deceased was later identified as Bibharani Barman, a resident of Sheorarthal under Dholai. She had been missing for two days and was last seen when she visited a neighbour’s house to watch television.

The recovery of her naked body under mysterious circumstances has sparked speculation and raised serious suspicion in the locality. Assam's Cachar Police have launched a probe to determine whether foul play was involved.
