The two reportedly set their own house on fire before ending their lives. A suicide note has been recovered from the spot.Upasana Borgohain was a married TET-qualified teacher posted at a government school. She was married to Bidyut Nath, a teacher at another government school and a resident of Charing Hafaluting in Sivasagar.Sources revealed that Upasana and her husband, Bidyut Nath, had been facing severe marital discord for a long time. Upasana had allegedly faced prolonged physical and mental torture from her husband. There were also serious allegations against Bidyut Nath of maintaining illicit relationships with multiple women.Notably, on May 10, 2024, Upasana had earlier attempted suicide by jumping from the roof of their house.Unable to bear the continued harassment and domestic violence any longer, Upasana and her mother, Rupa Borgohain, reportedly took the extreme step together, locals and family sources said.Police have arrested the husband, Bidyut Nath, in connection with the case.
