Ex-DNLT Cadre Escapes Custody; Haflong Jail on Alert Amid Zubeen Garg Case

In a dramatic turn of events, tension gripped Haflong Jail today after a daring escape by Besting Jidung—better known as Master or Jon Dimasa—around 12 noon. Jidung, a former cadre of the Dima National Liberation Tigers (DNLT), managed to flee from custody, sending shockwaves through the prison administration.

Police have launched an extensive manhunt to trace the fugitive, while authorities are now scrambling to review lapses in jail security and protocol that may have enabled the breakout.

It may be mentioned that the incident comes at a sensitive time, as the same facility currently houses two high-profile inmates—Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, the prime accused in the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Earlier, the duo was transferred to Haflong Sub-Jail on October 17, 2025, after completing 14 days in CID custody. They were produced before the CJM Court and later remanded to judicial custody as part of the ongoing investigation into Garg’s shocking demise that continues to dominate headlines across Assam.

With today’s escape, questions are being raised about the security preparedness of Haflong Jail, especially given the presence of such high-profile detainees. Police officials have assured that security has been significantly tightened around the premises, and all efforts are underway to apprehend Jon Dimasa at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Dima Hasao district police have also hinted at an internal inquiry to identify any possible negligence or insider involvement in the escape.

As the hunt for the fugitive intensifies, all eyes remain on Haflong—where the threads of a jailbreak and the state’s most closely watched celebrity case now intertwine in a dramatic new twist.
