Over the course of his distinguished career, he has also rendered more than 11 years of dedicated service in the Special Protection Group (SPG), the elite force tasked with providing security to the Prime Minister of India. Earlier, in 2017, he was conferred the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.Responding to the honour, IG Verma said the award was a reflection of collective effort and team spirit and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues and the force for their continued support.Meanwhile, the SSB Guwahati Frontier celebrated the 77th Republic Day with a grand ceremony at the 1st Battalion campus in Sonapur. IG Verma graced the occasion as the chief guest. He paid floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial, honouring the supreme sacrifice of personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.Following the tribute, the Inspector General unfurled the National Flag at the parade ground and took the salute. The celebrations featured an impressive march-past and a vibrant cultural programme, reflecting the unity and diversity of the force.During the ceremony, IG Verma felicitated personnel with Director General’s Medals and Commendation Certificates for distinguished service. He also presented medals awarded by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh to personnel for their role in the successful organisation of the Maha Kumbh.The event was further dignified by the presence of Regional Sandiksha President Smt. Rani Anuradha, along with members of the Sandiksha family. Deputy Inspectors General Rajeev Rana, H.B.K.
