The students, marching from the university campus to the Secretariat, were protesting over issues related to tribal categorisation and accusing Bodo political leaders of failing to safeguard tribal rights.

The protest intensified dramatically as the crowd broke through the main entrance gate of the BTC Secretariat, forcing their way into the administrative premises. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of shouting, pushing, and scuffles as the protestors attempted to storm various office sections.

Inside the Secretariat, the situation turned chaotic, with slogans of “We want Hagrama!” reverberating through the compound—an apparent demand for former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary’s intervention amid mounting dissatisfaction with current political stances.

Security personnel struggled to control the agitated crowd as sections of the protestors became aggressive. Reports indicate instances of vandalism and attempted looting, creating panic among staff present in the building.

The protestors’ anger stemmed from what they described as the failure of leading Bodo politicians to oppose moves affecting tribal categorisation, resulting in deep frustration among student groups.

The BTC Secretariat remains under heightened security as officials attempt to restore order and prevent further escalation.

This is a developing story. More details to follow.
