MLA Akhil Gogoi Accused of Misrepresenting Chargesheet, SIT Registers Case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), Assam police has filed a case against Raijor Dal chief and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi at the Guwahati Crime Branch, alleging that he misled the public regarding a recently submitted chargesheet in connection with the alleged murder case of Assam’s popular singer Zubeen Garg, police sources said on Thursday.

According to officials, the case relates to the alleged circulation and viral dissemination of a chargesheet, following which Gogoi is accused of attempting to misinform the public by terming the chargesheet as incorrect. The SIT has alleged that such statements were made with the intent to create confusion and mislead people regarding the contents and authenticity of the chargesheet.

The case has been registered as Crime Branch Police Station Case No. 13/2025 under Sections 221, 236, 238, 240 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The FIR was lodged by Rosie Kalita, Senior Superintendent of Police, who is the Chief Investigating Officer of the SIT and is also attached to the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell, officials confirmed.

Police sources said the SIT has taken cognisance of multiple allegations linked to the matter and a detailed investigation is currently underway to ascertain the role of the accused.

No official response from Akhil Gogoi was available at the time of filing this report.
