"In a crucial development in the investigation into the mysterious death of iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore on September 19, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam CID has submitted an extensive chargesheet before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kamrup Metro, on Friday.Advertisment CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed that the SIT filed a 2,500-page primary chargesheet, accompanied by 12,000+ pages of additional digital and documentary evidence, making it one of the most voluminous compilations ever produced in a murder case in India. The combined dossier contains detailed forensic, digital, financial and circumstantial records uncovered during the investigation. According to the CID, several individuals have been named in the case under some of the most serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Among them, Siddharth Sharma has been charged under Sections 3(6), 3(7) and 3(8) relating to common intention, common knowledge and cooperation, along with Section 61(2) for criminal conspiracy, Section 103(1) for murder, and Section 316(5) for criminal breach of trust. Businessman Shyamkanu Mahanta faces a wider set of charges, including common intention and conspiracy under Sections 3(6), 3(7), 3(8) and 61(2), the murder charge under Section 103(1), Section 308(2) for extortion, Section 318(4) for cheating, and Section 238 for destruction of evidence. Shekharjyoti Goswami has been charged with common intention and cooperation, criminal conspiracy, murder and criminal breach of trust, while Amritprabha Mahanta faces charges of common intention, conspiracy, murder and destruction of evidence. In addition, Sandipan Garg has been booked under Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya have both been charged with criminal conspiracy under Section 61(2) and criminal breach of trust under Section 316(5). Special DGP Gupta said the chargesheet includes “a vast range of digital and material evidence” gathered from multiple locations, individuals and electronic sources. The annexed documents, running over 12,200 pages, contain corroborative materials supporting the SIT"s findings. Reacting to the development, earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the SIT had fulfilled its commitment to submit the chargesheet in due time. “We intend to provide justice to our beloved artist Zubeen Garg at any cost. Many have been charged with murder. I believe the court will deliver justice after examining the chargesheet. The process of justice should be respected by all,” he said. The submission of the chargesheet marks a major milestone in the high-profile investigation, offering the most detailed official account yet of the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg"s death in Singapore. The Kamrup Metropolitan Court is slated to begin hearings on the matter on December 16. As per the latest update, the CJM has already taken cognizance of the case and instructed all accused to be present on that date, with their appearance to be facilitated through virtual conference.
