Real-Life ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ Arrested in Assam's Cachar

A fake doctor was once again caught in the police net in Assam’s Cachar district, who had been allegedly practising medicine using forged documents.

The accused was identified as Shamim Ahmed Laskar, and was arrested from the Bhaga area under Dholai in Cachar district. 

The arrest was made following a written complaint submitted by the Assam Council of Medical Registration (ACMR). Acting on the complaint, Cachar Police conducted a raid and arrested the accused.

According to the allegations, Laskar had been running a private chamber in the Bhaga area for a long time while posing as an “MBBS doctor”. It is claimed that he was providing medical treatment to patients by using fake MBBS certificates.

After receiving information about the matter, the Assam Council of Medical Registration formally approached the police and demanded legal action against the impersonator. Based on the complaint, police carried out an operation and arrested Laskar.

During the operation, police also seized forged certificates and several documents from the accused.

It may be mentioned that this is not an isolated case. Over the last few months, Cachar Police have arrested nearly 20 fake doctors and sent them to jail.

Further legal action is being taken against the accused as the investigation continues.
