Two-Year Relationship Ends in Exploitation; Survivor Claims Month-Long Confinement, Rape

A young woman from Gauripur in Assam’s Dhubri district has accused her lover of blackmail, physical assault and rape, turning what began as a relationship of trust into a case of prolonged abuse and intimidation. The survivor has lodged a detailed FIR at the Gauripur Police Station seeking justice.

According to the complaint, the woman, a highly educated graduate with aspirations of building a career, entered into a romantic relationship with Latiful Zaman of Tiamari village nearly two years ago. What started as a consensual relationship soon took a darker turn.

Intimate Video Allegedly Used for Blackmail

The survivor alleged that after they became physically intimate, Zaman secretly recorded a video of the encounter. He later used the explicit visuals to blackmail her, threatening to make the content viral if she refused to comply with his demands.

For months, the woman was allegedly subjected to continuous threats, emotional pressure and coercion.

She further claimed that during one visit to Zaman’s residence, his parents assaulted her. The FIR states that she was forced to sign blank sheets of paper under threat, raising fears of forged documents being created to manipulate her.

Month-long Confinement and Rape

In one of the most serious allegations, the survivor said she was kept for nearly a month at the house of the accused’s maternal uncle, where she was allegedly raped. She claimed that Zaman continued to intimidate her throughout the period, threatening to release her private photos and videos if she told anyone about the abuse.

After this, the accused allegedly left her at her aunt’s residence late at night and warned her to remain silent.

The woman also informed police that Zaman prepared a fake marriage registration document showing the two had been married a year ago, allegedly as another tool of manipulation and control.

Survivor Finally Informs Family, Approaches Police

Unable to withstand the prolonged blackmail and harassment, the survivor finally disclosed everything to her family. Following their support, she filed a formal complaint with the Gauripur Police Station demanding strict action against Zaman and others named in the FIR.
