"Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh claimed that a significant improvement in the state"s law and order situation was seen since the imposition of President"s Rule.Advertisment His comments followed a week-long visit to New Delhi, accompanied by 25 BJP MLAs. Singh told reporters at the Imphal Airport that decisions related to the formation of a new government rest solely with the BJP"s national leadership. He said, “As a national party, the BJP"s central leadership, not local figures, determines matters like government formation in Manipur.” Singh further stated that the delegation"s Delhi visit was intended to secure meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address critical issues related to Manipur. The issues, according to Singh, include the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs), road connectivity challenges and the call for restoring a democratically elected government. “Our goal is to convey the people"s concerns to the central leadership. Whether it"s the IDP crisis, highway issues, or the demand for a popular government, we are ensuring Manipur"s voice reaches the national stage,” Singh asserted. “Some parties push for the assembly"s dissolution, but we stand for the people"s will and won"t bow to any single party"s agenda,” he said, in an apparent jab at the Congress. It may be mentioned that the President"s Rule was imposed in Manipur in February 2025 as Singh stepped down amid criticism over his government"s handling of the ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The Manipur violence, which began in May 2023, claimed over 260 lives and displaced at least 50 thousand people. Singh, speaking of history, stated that Manipur faced President"s Rule 11 times, often during breakdowns in law and order, even under majority-elected governments. “Such measures are unavoidable when stability collapses,” he said. Singh added, “All communities are in talks with the Union Home Ministry, and a popular government will eventually be established.”"
