Meghalaya: 250 CCTV Cameras in Shillong to Go Live by November-End, says CM Conrad Sangma

Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated that the initial phase of a citywide surveillance network, deploying 250 CCTV cameras across 48 localities in Shillong, Meghalaya, will be fully operational by the end of November.

Speaking at a consultative session with Rangbah Shnongs and locality heads from the Greater Shillong Planning Area, the Meghalaya Chief Minister outlined the project as a cornerstone of the government’s comprehensive strategy to bolster public safety and modernise urban monitoring.

High-risk areas will be prioritised under the upgraded safety framework, receiving intensified illumination, expanded camera coverage, and enhanced footpaths to promote secure and accessible public spaces.

To eliminate past overlaps in jurisdiction and ensure seamless upkeep, Sangma confirmed that the Shillong Municipal Board will assume exclusive responsibility for maintaining both CCTV infrastructure and street lighting systems.

“This centralised approach will drive greater accountability and enable swift resolution of technical faults and routine servicing”, CM Conrad Sangma stated.
