Meghalaya: Charges Dropped Against Two in Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case

Shillong: Police have now reportedly dropped charges against two individuals previously arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence in the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said that a thorough investigation found no involvement by Balbir Ahirwar and Lokendra Singh Tomar. As a result, their names were excluded from the second chargesheet filed in the case.

“The final investigation established that they had no role in the case, and their names have been dropped from the chargesheet,” Syiem said.

The two suspects had been detained on suspicion of destroying or concealing evidence and were later released on bail.

Initially, police named three individuals in connection with the alleged evidence tampering, but only one remains in the latest chargesheet, which is set to be heard in court soon.

The prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the deceased, remains in judicial custody following the recent rejection of her bail application.

Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Madhya Pradesh, was murdered in May 2025 while on honeymoon in Meghalaya. His decomposed body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district after an extensive search.

Investigations revealed attempts to destroy evidence and conceal the body. The case, which police have linked to a conspiracy involving a love triangle and financial motives, remains under active investigation.
