The operation was carried out in coordination with the district administration, Forest Department, Excise Department, and the state Anti-Narcotics Task Force to eradicate illegal cannabis cultivation in the region.

Police teams meticulously uprooted all cannabis plants across the targeted area. The seized plants were subsequently incinerated on-site under strict supervision, adhering to legal and environmental protocols to ensure their complete destruction.

Officials described the operation as a powerful statement against the cultivation and trafficking of narcotic substances. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem emphasised that the operation reflects the district’s unwavering commitment to combating drug-related crimes and protecting communities from the dangers of narcotics.

Authorities reiterated that cannabis cultivation is a serious offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, with strict legal consequences for violators. This operation is part of Meghalaya’s ongoing efforts to curb drug cultivation and trafficking, particularly in rural areas.
