NationalOwaisi–Ajmal Axis in the Making? AIUDF Chief Drops Big HintThis comes days after Ajmal had hinted at a formal outreach to AIMIM, stating that an AIUDF delegation would visit Hyderabad after December 2 to explore a potential alliance.DY365 Nov 22, 2025 14:27 IST"Rahul Gandhi cannot become the Prime Minister. He is not even fit to be an MLA of a village", AjmalAIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on Friday evening reiterated that discussions are underway with AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi regarding a possible political understanding ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.AdvertismentThis comes days after Ajmal had hinted at a formal outreach to AIMIM, stating that an AIUDF delegation would visit Hyderabad after December 2 to explore a potential alliance.“Owaisi bhai has just completed the Bihar polls and is resting. We will sit together soon, and whatever is decided will be shared with the media,” Ajmal had said earlier, congratulating AIMIM for its performance in the Bihar elections. However, AIMIM last Wednesday contradicted reports of any expansion into Assam or alliance negotiations. In a post on its official X handle, the party wrote:“These reports are blatantly false. Neither has AIMIM decided to start operations in Assam, nor enter into alliance with any party in the state.”Despite AIMIM’s clarification, Ajmal on Friday maintained that preliminary talks had been initiated and that a group of four to five AIUDF MLAs had already been formed to coordinate the process. He also announced that the party plans to contest 35 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections.Attacks on Rahul Gandhi and Congress StrategyAjmal launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming national political winds have shifted after the Bihar results.“Rahul Gandhi cannot become the Prime Minister. He is not even fit to be an MLA of a village,” Ajmal remarked. He contrasted Gandhi’s outreach efforts with those of the Bihar Chief Minister, claiming the latter does “50 programmes a day” while Gandhi “barely manages five.”The AIUDF chief said Congress cannot form a government in Assam without building a broad opposition front. “Even if 100 percent Muslims vote for them, Congress cannot form the government. If they genuinely want to, they must form a grand alliance,” he said.Hits Back at CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Remarks on ‘Miya’ CommunityReacting strongly to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s repeated statements branding the ‘Miya’ community as “suspicious,” Ajmal said such remarks were divisive and politically motivated.“If the Chief Minister calls Miya people suspicious, then he too is suspicious. Today Miya is suspicious, tomorrow Assamese, Bengalis, Karbis, Dimasas, Kolitas — everyone will become suspicious. If everyone becomes suspicious, the Chief Minister will also be suspicious,” he said.Ajmal accused the BJP of targeting the minority community to consolidate votes in Assamese-majority areas and alleged that Congress leaders were also focusing only on minority belts. “Both BJP and Congress are working in Miya areas. They are two sides of the same coin,” he said.‘Assam’s Muslims Are Not Living in Peace’Ajmal said Muslims in the state are under constant pressure.“We are not living in peace. Poor people cannot sleep. Evictions have destroyed livelihoods, and even students’ exams were disrupted,” he said.He also mocked the Chief Minister’s frequent visits to Delhi. “Delhi is already unsettled. How many times has he gone this month? Soon he will have to go daily. Hum bhi badnaam hain, tum bhi badnaam ho,” Ajmal said.Asked whether the CM might be replaced before the elections, Ajmal said Assam’s image had suffered “massively” under Sarma. “These are political matters — anything can happen,” he said.Responds to Gaurav Gogoi’s ‘Big Fight’ CommentAjmal dismissed Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s statement that a major political contest was brewing, saying, “There will be no big fight without AIUDF. Even if 100 percent Muslims vote for him, he cannot form the government. Miya voters support the BJP. Congress cannot form a government even in 100 years unless it builds an alliance.”May Not Contest in 2026 Due to Health IssuesThe AIUDF chief indicated he may skip the upcoming election.“My waist is broken. Only I know how I reached Jamunamukh today. Even if I don’t contest, I will travel everywhere for campaigning,” he said.He also briefly commented on the ongoing SR issue without elaboration. Also Read: No Alliance, No Confusion: Ajmal Sets AIUDF’s Lone-Wolf Path for 2026AdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
