The public fallout between six-time world boxing champion Mary Kom and her former husband Karung Onkholer, also known as Onler, has taken a sharper turn, with Onler publicly rejecting her accusations of financial misconduct and making counter-allegations of his own.

Responding to Mary Kom’s claims that he misappropriated large sums of money earned during her boxing career, took loans in her name, mortgaged property, and transferred assets without her consent, Onler categorically denied all wrongdoing. He asserted that the allegations are unfounded and challenged her to produce documentary evidence.

“If she believes I have taken her money or property, she should show the papers,” Onler said, insisting that his current financial situation contradicts her claims. “She says I stole Rs 5 crore. Then look at my bank account. I live in a rented house in Delhi. If I had taken what she claims, would I be living like this?”

In a strong counter, Onler also made personal allegations against the Olympic medallist, claiming that she had been involved in extramarital relationships over the years. According to him, the first instance occurred in 2013 with a junior boxer, a situation that, he said, led to tensions between their families before being resolved. He further alleged that from 2017 onwards, Mary Kom was in a relationship with a person associated with her boxing academy.

“I stayed silent for years,” he said, adding that he possesses message records which he claims support his statements. “I know the person involved. I have proof, including conversations.”

Onler maintained that he does not object to Mary Kom moving on with her personal life following their separation, but strongly objected to being portrayed publicly as responsible for financial impropriety.

“She wanted to live independently and move forward with her life. We are divorced, and I respect that,” he said. “But do not put the blame on me without evidence. If she accuses me, she must bring facts.”

Reflecting on their long marriage, Onler said he felt hurt by the manner in which the dispute has unfolded in public. “We were together for 18 years. After all that, these accusations are being made. She is a public figure, people will believe what she says. But I have nothing today except my integrity.”

Mary Kom had earlier accused her former husband of cheating her out of significant portions of her earnings and misusing assets in her name. Onler’s response marks the first time he has spoken in detail about the allegations and offered a rebuttal in the public domain.
