Bilaspur: A collision between a Korba-bound passenger train and a stationary goods train near the Lal Khadan region on the Bilaspur-Katni rail line in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district resulted in four fatalities on Tuesday, with the front carriages of the passenger train left in twisted ruins from the ferocious impact.

Police officials in Bilaspur verified the death toll, noting that emergency response teams are still combing the wreckage for trapped individuals. "Search and rescue operations continue unabated, and the wounded are being rushed to adjacent medical facilities," an official stated.

On-site footage depicts the passenger train's locomotive and initial cars severely crumpled, as emergency crews from the railways, district authorities, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) work to free survivors.

Among those pulled to safety is a young child, with on-board physicians providing urgent care to the gravely hurt passengers hindered by the mangled debris impeding swift extractions.

The mishap has inflicted substantial harm to overhead power lines and signalling infrastructure, halting services along the corridor. Numerous long-distance and local trains face cancellations or rerouting, while contingency bus and taxi services are being organised for affected travellers. Engineering squads are toiling overnight to clear the lines and mend the power grid.
