A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan posted at a camp in Vairengte, Mizoram, died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest while playing badminton with his colleagues, officials said on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Singh, a resident of Laothai Basti in Udharbond area of Cachar district, Assam. He had been serving at the CRPF camp in Vairengte for a considerable period.

According to sources, the incident took place late on Sunday night inside the camp premises. Singh was playing badminton with fellow personnel when he suddenly collapsed on the court after complaining of uneasiness. His colleagues immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital; however, doctors on duty declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the mortal remains of the jawan were brought to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination. After the completion of the legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family and taken to his native place in Cachar district.

The last rites of the CRPF jawan were performed with full state honours, as family members, colleagues, and local residents gathered to pay their final respects.

The sudden death of the jawan has left his family devastated and cast a deep shadow of grief across the entire region.

Locals and security personnel expressed condolences, remembering him as a disciplined and dedicated soldier who served the nation with commitment.
