3 NIT Silchar Students Feared Drowned at Waterfall in Assam's Dima Hasao

In a tragic incident, at least three students from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar— two girls and one boy — went missing after reportedly drowning in a waterfall at Harangajao in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday.

According to reports, a group of first-year students from NIT Silchar had travelled to Harangajao for a picnic. While visiting the Bahkol Waterfall in the area, three of them accidentally slipped and fell into the deep waters. They have been missing since the incident occurred.

The missing students have been identified as Sauhard Rai (20) and Sarvakritika (20) from Uttar Pradesh, and Radhika (19) from Bihar.

Confirming the incident, Dima Hasao Additional Superintendent of Police Faruk Ahmed said that rescue operations have already been launched to trace the missing students. Acting on the information, the Officer-in-Charge of Harangajao Police Station Lakhindhar Saikia, along with a team of police personnel, rushed to the spot and began search operations.

Meanwhile, a team of officials from NIT Silchar has left for Harangajao to coordinate with the local administration and assist in the ongoing rescue efforts.

An NDRF team from Silchar is also on its way to the site to join the operation.

As of the latest update, no trace of the missing students has been found. Search and rescue operations are continuing.
