Guwahati: A female law student was allegedly assaulted by an advocate in Goalpara, Assam, prompting the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at Goalpara Sadar Police Station in Assam. The accused, identified as advocate Sahidul Rahman, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to reports, the student had travelled from Bongaigaon on Tuesday to attend classes at the law college located in Bhalukdubi in the Goalpara district of Assam. She reportedly boarded a bus at Sholmari and proceeded towards Goalpara by autorickshaw. While travelling in the auto, the accused, who was also a passenger, allegedly touched her inappropriately several times.

When the student attempted to record a video of the incident on her mobile phone, the accused allegedly snatched the device from her. During her efforts to retrieve the phone, he is said to have physically assaulted her. The assault reportedly continued even after she got down from the autorickshaw at Bhalukdubi. Visible injury marks were later found on various parts of her body.

The student subsequently managed to escape and lodged a formal complaint at Goalpara Sadar Police Station. Based on her complaint, police registered a case (No. 21/26) and arrested the accused advocate.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of students, particularly those from outside the district. The victim is currently seeking justice as investigations continue.
