Assam: Wild elephants 'raid' school kitchen in Lanka

Hojai: A herd of 60 to 70 wild elephants wreaked havoc at the Sri Sri Sankardev Primary School in Hawaipur Gosai village near Lanka in Assam'sHojai, targeting the institution's kitchen in search of food.

Reports indicate that this is the eighth time the school has fallen victim to elephant raids in recent times.

Emerging from the Lumding Reserve Forest, the herd has encamped near the forest-adjacent Hawaipur Gosai village.

Every night, the elephants venture out, devastating trees, crops, and ripe paddy fields, inflicting significant losses on local farmers.

Locals have urged the forest department and administration to find a solution to the man-elephant conflict.

However, there were no reports of any casualties during the incident that took place last night.

It may be mentioned that the man-elephant conflict in several districts of Assam is a major issue that, over the years, has received no solution despite a series of plans and initiatives.

Often, the initiatives taken by locals result in the death of either a human being or an elephant.
