BREAKING: Gunshots Rock Hafania Village in Assam's South Sribhumi, Two Seriously Injured

Guwahati: In a shocking incident, panic gripped South Hafania village in Assam’s Sribhumi (formerly Karimganj) district late on Tuesday night after a series of gunshots shattered the silence, leaving two people critically injured and residents traumatised.

According to preliminary reports, the incident stemmed from a dispute linked to a mobile phone theft, which escalated into a violent gun attack. The assailants allegedly opened fire indiscriminately, discharging several rounds and creating an atmosphere of fear across the village.

Police rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and managed to bring the situation under control. During a search conducted in the disputed area, security personnel recovered multiple spent bullet cartridges from the scene, indicating the intensity of the firing. It has been alleged that the attackers used two pistols during the assault.

Two persons sustained serious injuries in the attack. They have been identified as Anowar Hussain and his mother. Both were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be critical.

The incident triggered widespread tension in the locality, with residents expressing concern over the sudden outbreak of violence in the area. Senior Superintendent of Police Leena Doley reached the village from the district headquarters to assess the situation and supervise the investigation.

Police have launched a detailed probe to identify and apprehend those involved in the firing. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
