Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, speaking to reporters, said that no legitimate medical professional has endorsed or signed the document which is seen on WhatsApp forwards.

Gupta, who is leading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Zubeen Garg's death probe, said that the purported document lacks any official signature or authentication from qualified doctors as is necessary by law.

"We are closely monitoring social media platforms for such misinformation," Gupta stated. He urged the public not to propagate unverified claims that could compromise the ongoing probe.

He added that the actual postmortem findings, including a second autopsy conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) upon the body's return to Assam, along with viscera analysis from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFL) in Delhi, remain confidential.

These reports will not be publicly disclosed to avoid prejudicing the investigation, he added.

Zubeen Garg, 52, passed away on September 19, 2025, while in Singapore for a performance at the North East India Festival.

Initial reports suggested that his death was due to drowning during a swim from a yacht chartered for a private party attended by Assamese non-resident Indians (NRIs).

However, public outcry and over 60 FIRs filed across Assam prompted the state government to order a second postmortem on September 23 to rule out foul play.

The viscera report, received recently, has reportedly uncovered a "definite angle" in the case, as revealed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, though specifics remain under wraps.
