A man posing as a doctor for the last two decades was arrested in Guwahati on Wednesday evening. The accused, identified as Suman Bhattacharjee, was picked up by Paltan Bazar Police from his chamber located in Rehabari.

The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by the Anti-Quackery & Vigilance Wing of the Assam Medical Council.

According to officials, Bhattacharjee had been running a clinic named “Guwahati Ayurved Bhawan” in Rehabari for the past 20 years. The chamber, reportedly operated under the supervision of Rajasthan Aushadhalaya Private Limited, catered to patients with all kinds of ailments.

The long-running fraud came to light recently after a patient from Barpeta allegedly received wrong treatment at his clinic.

Following the Assam Medical Council’s Vigilance Unit’s intervention, police launched an operation and arrested Bhattacharjee from his chamber in Rehabari.
