Assam: Armed Gang Strikes Barpeta Showroom, Escapes with Jewellery Worth ₹12 Crore

Guwahati: A bold armed robbery in broad daylight sent shockwaves through Barpeta Road in Assam on Friday after a group of gunmen allegedly made off with gold and diamond ornaments valued at approximately ₹12 crore from a showroom of Senco Gold & Diamonds.

Police sources said five assailants entered the jewellery outlet during business hours, reportedly wielding pistols and intimidating employees and customers. Eyewitnesses stated that the men swiftly took control of the premises, tying up staff members with ropes to prevent any resistance.

The attackers are also believed to have vandalised the store’s CCTV cameras in an apparent attempt to erase evidence before proceeding to gather a substantial quantity of gold ornaments and diamond pieces. The entire operation was carried out within a short span of time, after which the suspects fled the scene.

While the estimated value of the stolen items is said to be around ₹12 crore, officials have clarified that a final assessment is still underway and the exact loss will be confirmed following inventory verification.

Police teams reached the spot soon after being alerted and have since launched an extensive manhunt. The surrounding areas have been sealed, and intensified vehicle checks are being conducted at key exit points in and around Barpeta.

The incident has unsettled traders and residents alike, raising concerns over security in the busy commercial hub. Authorities, however, have assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
